WHAT IS Emboss
Embossing is a unique and intriguing process that uses plates and pressure to create a raised detail on one side of a business card by pushing it through from the other. This finishing creates an effect that is visible from 360 degrees! On the opposite side of the emboss, where the design is pushed through, a reverse impression results - similar to that of a deboss. Embossing can be combined with foil stamping, inks, or can be left “blind”, meaning that no further finishing is used and the emboss shows as only the cardstock. The addition of embossing is an excellent way to enhance your professional business card!

DESIGN CONSIDERATIONS
● Embossing is ideal for designs with at least a 2mm buffer zone between the emboss and other plate stamping elements. This rule is to ensure that the emboss is as clear and detailed as possible, and to leave the other element unaffected.
● Embossing will leave a complete reverse impression on the other side of the card, but which side is raised or lowered is up to you!
● Symmetrical designs work exceptionally well with emboss.
● Additional print features, such as foil stamping, can only be aligned to one side of the emboss.
● Custom Emboss, where the technique is applied before gluing a duplex or triplex stock together, is possible to avoid the reverse impression. However, this is available only on specific cardstocks and with a surcharge applied. Please refer to our cardstock pages to see if this feature is available on your desired stock.
● Emboss is only available on paper stocks; we recommend stocks that are 30pt or thinner.
● Emboss must have a 2mm buffer zone between it and edge foil or paint.
● Emboss is subject to oversized plates.
